VENUVI -0.2 (Voglibose 0.2 mg Tablets)
Mechanism of Action
Voglibose 0.2 mg Tablets- It is an Alpha glucosidase inhibitor so it inhibits the breakdown of Polysaccharides and disaccharides in small intestine thereby inhibiting the absorption of glucose into the blood stream and decreasing post prandial glucose levels in blood.
Indications for use of Voglibose
- To control Blood Sugar in NIDDM.
- Used in combination with Metformin for NIDDM.
- In addition to Insulin to control Post prandial glucose levels.
- In old patients and in people who have hepatic dysfunction and mild to moderate renal insufficiency.
How to take Voglibose
In NIDDM patients it is recommended to start with 0.2 mg before meals thrice daily.
Voglibose advantage
It does not cause hypoglycaemia as compared to sulphonylurea and Insulin with the drug overdose.
When not to use voglibose
- Allergic reaction to it.
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis
- Inflammatory bowel disease.
- Disorders related to digestion and absorption
When to avoid taking voglibose
- Pregnancy
- lactating Mothers
- Hepatic Impairment
- Renal function Impairment
- GastroIntestinal disorders
Side effects
- Diarrhea/ flatulence/ Bloating all related to unabsorbed carbohydrates.
- Nausea/vomiting
