UZITEL-A (Telmisartan 40mg + Amlodipine 5 mg Tablets)
Telmisartan 40mg + Amlodipine 5 mg Tablets– Telmisartan and amlodipine combination is used to treat high blood pressure( Hypertension).
Mechanism of Action – Telmisartan
It is an Angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB).
It blocks the action of angiotensin
It acts by relaxing blood vessels thereby reducing the Blood pressure.
Mechanism of Action – Amlodipine
It is an Calcium channel blocker.
It blocks the movement of calcium into cells of heart and blood vessels as result of this blood vessels dilate and decrease the blood pressure.
Advantage of using Telmisartan and Amlodipine
When a single agent cannot control blood pressure because it has reached the highest dose or due to side effects at high dose then two agents are added to take advantage of combination.
The likelihood of achieving systolic blood pressure is 79% and reducing the diastolic is 55%.

How to use Telmisartan and Amlodipine
It may be taken before or after food

Side effects of Amlodipine
- Pedal edema- swelling in the ankle region.
Serious Side effects–
- Dizziness/Headache/Light Headed due to hypotension
- Fainting
- Hyperkalemia :

What are problems caused by High Blood Pressure:
High blood pressure increase the workload of the heart because it has to pump blood against higher pressure so it increases the demand of oxygen of heart itself which can lead to Heart Failure.
As a result of high blood pressure if it continues for long time then heart and arteries may not function properly which may lead to high pressure in the arteries supplying brain and result in Stroke.
